Prisoner ball
The captive ball is a game for children to play in open places, you need very large spaces. It is not recommended to play at home because this game requires the presence of a ball and therefore, in case the ball is thrown not in the way you wanted; you risk hitting and breaking some object in the house. A closed place in which you could play is a gym, both for the environment and for the size of the playing fields. The captive ball is a game suitable for both boys and girls, the important thing is that the children are not too young because they could get hurt. The ideal is to form a small group of children between 7 and 10 years old. To prevent some children from harming themselves, it is advisable to supervise an adult. This game requires very specific rules: requires a rectangular playing field, two teams of four players and two captains. The captain has the important role of choosing the rest of the team members. The chosen ball must be light and made of non-toxic plastic material and must be thrown with the hands. Often this game can be confused with that of the poison ball which has very different rules.
Game and its purpose
Once the two teams have been composed, they must be placed on the field one in front of the other. The course will obviously have to have guidelines that form a larger part of the field that will be the playing area and a much smaller rear. Each player must throw the ball and the aim is to try to hit one of the opponents in such a way as to make him a prisoner. In the event that the opponent manages to block the ball, it will not be he who becomes a prisoner but the one who threw it. The prisoners will have to settle in that smaller field area behind the playing area but on the opposite side of the field, i.e. not behind his team but behind the opposing team. The game for the prisoner is not over, he must try to catch the ball without leaving his field and hit his opponents. The prisoner who manages to hit the opponent can return to play in the field with his team, the one who was hit in turn becomes a prisoner. An important thing to say is that when the ball is thrown, if it first touches the ground and then hits a player, the throw is not considered valid. The game ends when all players on a team have been taken prisoner.
When to play
There is no specific time or day to choose to play captive ball. You can play with it when you feel like it, you can play with it at a birthday party held in an open place or in the garden, you can play with it during a picnic in the countryside, every occasion is good for playing. The captive ball is a very popular game even in school and sports environments. It is a good reason to let the little ones spend time together, whether they are moments of leisure or moments of socialization. This type of game aims above all to foster the spirit of socialization among children. In this way children learn to be with others, not to withdraw into themselves but to interact with the rest of the world. It is a game that tests them by experimenting with their playing skills and choosing friendships. In addition, in this game the captains must be chosen, and obviously the role of captain, in turn, is assumed by all the children. Taking on this role is important for them, because they feel involved and feel “powerful” in the choice of teams. In life, especially in that of adults, team play is essential to achieve results and to have an excellent social life. With this game, children learn from an early age the importance of «teaming up».
