Why fertilize an apple tree?
The apple tree is a tree that needs a lot of care to generate a good harvest. Along with all this, the subscription process is of course included.
This process will progress based on the age and stage of development of the apple tree. When they are in full growth, their nutritional needs are greater.
In the same way when they are in the process of producing fruits, allowing themselves to rest in the following stages.
What does the apple tree need?
Like any other species, the apple tree has its particular needs to feel in the best conditions when it comes to bearing fruit.
At each stage of the year you will need one or more nutrients that will be the protagonists, so you have to be very careful when fertilizing.
- The roots will feel stronger to the extent that the apple tree contains a good level of phosphorus.
- When leaf growth begins, it is key that it contains good levels of potassium and nitrogen.
- In the case of the appearance of flowers and fruits, the key is that it has zinc, calcium, manganese and also magnesium.
What are the main components of the fertilizer?
The main components of manure are macronutrients and micronutrients. The former are the ones that are contributed to the plant at a higher level because it is essential for it to grow.
An example of a macronutrient is nitrogen.
In the case of micronutrients, they optimize the internal processes of plants and help the work of macronutrients.
Among the micronutrients is zinc.
What deficiencies can the apple tree have and how to detect them?
Apple trees may have deficiencies in terms of nutrients and their detection will be carried out largely visually.
However, there are also chemical tests that are carried out on the leaves and that help to determine what is failing with complete certainty.
In the event that the apple tree does not produce flowers or stops growing, it is most likely that there is a nitrogen deficit.
When phosphorus is not present at adequate levels, plant growth is also paralyzed and there is little fruit development.
Low levels of potassium interfere with the quality of the fruits, reducing their color and the amount of sugar in the pulp.
In the absence of calcium, what will happen is that the fruits do not have a good texture, which can cause them to break easily.
How to make a compost for apple trees step by step?
To fertilize the apple tree, it is essential that the compound has high levels of nitrogen, as we have already assessed above.
In general, organic fertilizers made at home go very well, but to enhance this specific element, a good option is to make nettle fertilizer.
This is obtained by fermenting the plant, without the need for chemical additions and without even generating excessive effort.
If you want to pamper your apple tree using this option, you should only:
- Use nettle in any of its two presentations but varying the quantities add. If it is fresh nettle, 100 grams will be necessary and it must be previously chopped. If it is dry, 20 grams will be more than enough since this version is more concentrated.
- You will add this solid to a preferably metallic container that should contain a liter of common water.
- To give it temperature protection and prevent air currents from affecting the state of the fertilizer, you need to keep the container covered. Some specialists recommend that it be a saucepan or something similar made of metal.
- The fertilizer will have a preparation period of two months, so it is convenient that it begins its work as soon as winter ends, so that it can be used at the end of spring.
- It is necessary that the fertilizer is checked and removed twice a day, preferably in the middle of the morning and before dark.
To use this fertilizer, it will only be necessary to pass the mixture through a filter and then dilute it in water before applying it to the apple trees.
This amount of fertilizer is enough to give about ten liters of fertilizer.
The care of apple trees should be something that interests you frequently, since they need an appropriate fertilization for each stage they have.
Otherwise, the trees could suffer inconveniences both for their development and for the generation of good fruits and that is something that none of us wants.
