Globally, China is by far the largest producer of garlic, accounting for 2/3 of the world total, with 468.8 million kg in 2016.
The United States ranks 11th in total garlic production. China, India and Bangladesh are the world leaders in garlic production.
How much garlic can be grown on an acre?

Plantation and climate. When grown under the right conditions, garlic typically takes nine months to mature. Garlic grows best when it gets at least six hours of sun a day. Plant garlic in the fall; three to eight weeks before the first frost.
How much is garlic sold for?
Elephant garlic, for example, routinely sells for around €1.5/kg. You can produce around €8 per square meter of growing area. So let’s do the math. If you want to earn €40,000, and you are selling the garlic at €1.5/kg, then you need enough space to produce around 26,600 kg of garlic.
